Quote of the Day

“What kind of Christmas present would Jesus ask Santa for?”

  • Salman Rushdie, Fury

A controversial question for you.

Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie is an Indian-born British-American novelist. His work often combines magic realism with historical fiction and primarily deals with connections, disruptions, and migrations between Eastern and Western civilizations, typically set on the Indian subcontinent. His most controversial work, The Satanic Verses, was published in 1988. It was followed by Haroun and the Sea of Stories in 1990. Written in the shadow of a fatwa, it is about the dangers of story-telling and an allegorical defense of the power of stories over silence.
